The UOC of General Medicine is a complex structure within the San Benedetto Hospital in Alatri. The department consists of two separate lanes that currently accommodate 30 beds reserved for acute patients of internistic competence. The most frequently treated diseases in hospital are cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine-metabolic, geriatric, gastroenterological and rheumatological. The department is also connected to a national network, which includes the CNR of Palermo, for the diagnosis of rare diseases such as Gaucher and Fabry disease.
The diagnostic path makes use of the use of “bed-side” ultrasound diagnostics in the department, which allows a rapid differential diagnosis between the main acute diseases of internal interest and small eco-assisted invasive maneuvers such as thoracentesis and diagnostic and therapeutic paracentesis. The electrocardiogram tele-referencing service for hospitalized patients is active and Holter ECG devices are available.
Collateral outpatient activities include:
- an Internal Medicine clinic dedicated to initial visits and checks;
- a part of the Internal Medicine clinic dedicated to the diagnostic and therapeutic classification of dyslipidemias (hypercholesterolemia-hypertriglyceridemia) not responsive to common therapies, with controls that are regularly performed through telemedicine;
- an office for the management and follow-up of therapy with oral anticoagulants (TAO/NOAC), both provided on a weekly basis and also through telemedicine;
- an outpatient clinic for the administration of monoclonal antibodies for the prophylaxis of Covid 19 in frail patients;
The television and teleconsultation service is being activated and implemented, which allows the provision of specific medical services directly remotely.
The departmental medical team currently consists of two internal medicine specialists, four geriatricians, a rheumatologist, a gastroenterologist and a clinical immunologist. The Head of the UOC is Dr. Rosalba Cipriani, a specialist in endocrinology and metabolic diseases.
