The Bronchial and Interventional Endoscopy Unit, part of the Pneumology Unit, is the only company centre located at the Cassino Unit. It provides the following services, both in an outpatient setting and as a consultancy service for inpatient patients at other company units.
Services / Activities provided
- Diagnosis of the expansive processes of the mediastinum and staging of lung cancer by:
- Inspection bronchoscopic examination;
- Bronchoscopic examination with endobronchial biopsies (histology) and traditional transbronchial needle aspiration (cytology).
- Disruptive endoscopic therapy of neoplastic diseases (malignant and non-malignant) and scarring of the airways, using laser therapy and placement of tracheal and bronchial prostheses;
- Evaluation and treatment of artificial airway complications (post-intubation tracheal stenosis, tracheal cannula controls);
- Pleuropulmonary ultrasound;
- Thoracentesis and placement of thoracic drainage in ultrasound guidance;
- Pleural talcation with slurry method;
- Ultrasound-guided lung biopsy;
- Tc-guided lung biopsy;
- Removal of endobronchial foreign body;
- Difficult orotracheal intubation – endoscopic assistance for tracheostomy.
How to access
Access to the activities described above takes place:
- By scheduled pulmonological examination and possible subsequent activation of PAC;
- By requesting pneumological advice for patients admitted to other Company OUs.
