Great participation in the World Prematurity Day at the UOC of Neonatology of the Fabrizio Spaziani Hospital in Frosinone, which supported the initiative promoted by the SIN – Italian Society of Neonatology with an Informational Open Day in the Neonatology Clinic, dressed for the occasion in purple, the symbolic colour of the event held every year on 17 November.
The meeting, open to parents of premature babies, new and expectant mothers and fathers, found a wide interest in the day which, thisyear, was focused on the importance of contact and so-called Kangaroo Care: “A parent’s embrace: a powerful therapy. Support skin-to-skin contact from the moment of birth”.
Throughout the event, an information stand was set up and the medical and nursing staff provided participants with all the clarifications required on the subject of prematurity.
A photo gallery was set up with photographs of the parents of the small patients and the families of the newborns, former patients of the UOC of Neonatology who did not want to miss their presence to share the lived experience.
Practical demonstrations were held for breastfeeding and the care of the newborn in its many aspects such as, among others, the care of the umbilical cord, bathing, nasal washes, the management of diaper rashes and, in addition, a training meeting was held on Baby Wearing and Kangaroo Care for new and future mothers.
Finally, at 5:17 pm, everything stopped for a minute of hugs between those present.
