Thus the Director of the structure Dr. Fabrizio Cristofari with whom we take the photograph of the current situation looking, at the same time, to the near future.
Dr. Cristofari, what is the situation at the Spaziani Emergency Room at the moment?
The anomalous and unexpected incidence in the months of June, July and now also August on the part of Covid, combined with the greater accesses that traditionally concern patients with chronicity in summer, in particular the elderly, also in light of the climatic emergency, have sent the system into pain and boarding phenomena have occurred, that is, parking for several days in the spaces of the structure.
The response to the new wave of the Coronavirus has not been easy, particularly for the management of the mixed system because most of the positives also have other diseases to treat.
This is accompanied by the problem of a shortage of doctors and nurses, a phenomenon that not only affects us but is widespread at the national level.
How do you judge the work of health personnel?
It is commendable! Our doctors and nurses are absolutely grateful for the work they do every day and because, instead of leaving, they are giving up their holidays to stay with the sick and guarantee them the necessary care. It is thanks to this spirit that we are the leaders in the emergency in the Region.
What does the regional data say about this?
That we are the only Emergency Room in Lazio that since 2021 has never blocked an ambulance, works in overcrowded conditions with over 30 ambulances a day, always ensuring urgency in an adequate way.
How is Healthcare responding to these challenges?
We immediately set to work to respond in a strong and concrete way to the emergency. We are equipping ourselves to avoid staging in the emergency room, we will try to alleviate the difficulties of patients. We can count on a staff that works well, that sacrifices and on important professionalism.
