A new and important service for citizens of the province of Frosinone suffering from myeloma who will no longer be forced to go to other centers in the Region to face the treatment process.
The Transfusion Service of the ASL of Frosinone today carried out its first collection of autologous stem cells that will be transplanted to a 57-year-old patient suffering from multiple myeloma, a tumour that affects the bone marrow.
The collection is carried out thanks to cell separators, machines that allow the selective collection of cells present in the blood and marrow, in order to be able to transplant them to the same patient at a later time.
Autotransplantation is a fundamental procedure in the treatment of many hematological diseases including multiple myeloma and lymphomas, a technique that increases the possibility of complete remission of the tumor.
Until now, to collect stem cells, patients had to go to other centers outside the province, today it is possible to carry out the entire care process in the Transfusion Service, Building Q in Via Armando Fabi in Frosinone, a significant advantage for patients in terms of stress, time and money.
In addition, the possibility of maintaining closeness to one’s family, loved ones and home is an aspect not to be underestimated in the success of the care.
A result achieved thanks to the commitment of all the medical and nursing staff of the Transfusion Service of the ASL of Frosinone.
