Important advantages can be obtained for patients with brain tumours who will have at their disposal all the professionals able to determine which and when to undergo certain specialist visits, saving time and avoiding travel.
All this thanks to the activation, by the Asl of Frosinone, of the Diagnostic Therapeutic Assistance Pathway (PDTA) on brain and nervous system tumours.
In the PDTA for each patient, an ad hoc care path is created for the patient, also taking into account their needs
Through this path, the cancer patient is taken care of and followed by a multidisciplinary group of experts from diagnosis to therapy, up to follow-up.
The heterogeneous group of the ASL of Frosinone is composed of the representatives of Neurosurgery, Pathological Anatomy, Radiology, Radiotherapy, Oncology, Psychiatry, Rehabilitative Long-term Care, Post-acute Rehabilitation, General Practitioners, UDI and UVMD/ADI coordinated by the PDTA representatives by Dr. Giancarlo D’Andrea and Dr. Vincenza Maiola and in the role of case manager Dr. Stefania De Santis.
For each patient, a personalised form relating to the individual phases of the PDTA will be drawn up and filed, which will report on the activities carried out and the delivery times. The data will flow to the UOSD PDTA and will be analysed during the meetings of the Working Group.
With the Therapeutic Care Diagnostic Pathway it is possible to have:
- A CT scan 24 hours after the surgery and an MRI check-up appointment within 15 days of the surgery itself.
- An anatomical-pathological diagnosis within seven days of surgery.
- Share with your General Practitioner with the UVMD/ADI, with the UVR, with the UDI and with Long-term Care/Post-acute Rehabilitation the management of the next personalized intervention.
- An oncological and radiotherapy evaluation within 10 days of the surgery
- Start radiation treatment in combination with your traffic within 30 days of surgery.
The words of the managers Dr. D’Andrea and Dr. Maiola
“This PDTA represents an important turning point in the formalization of the centralization of the patient and his disease. For about 3 years our centre has been welcoming patients with brain and nervous system tumours from all over Italy and also from abroad. From now on, the entire path of the brain tumor patient can take place within the territory of the province of Frosinone with a complete and very high level of care “.
How to access
To access the Pathway, you can directly send an email to vincenza.maiola@aslfrosinone.it from the proposing doctor or the patient (if the suspicion of brain injury has been placed on a brain CT or a brain MRI with a commitment for “first Neurosurgical visit”); in addition, all patients with a diagnosis of brain tumour accessing the Emergency Room or multi-specialist clinics adhering to the PDTA will be automatically included in the path.
